| Mural magic for nursery A Grovehill nursery in Hemel Hempstead has been 'tagged' by volunteer artists in a bid to inspire creativity in children and clean up the image of Dacorum's young people. Margaret Lloyd Nursery's metal storage containers got the space age makeover last month, thanks to volunteers at Hemel Hempstead Rotaract Club. The units are used to store toys for the nursery children and Rotaract members were called in to spruce them up thanks to Dacorum's Volunteer Bureau. Designer Amma Djane, from Apsley, who came up with mural ideas including a giant snakes and ladders board, hopes the colours will help brighten up play time. "Spaceships will inspire imaginative and creative play in the playground and I hope the children will be happy with the result," said the 25-year-old. Rotaract, part of Rotary International and aimed at people aged 17 to 30, is looking for more projects to get involved with to help boost the public image of Hemel Hempstead's youth. Rotaract publicity officer Sheila Chauhan, who added they were more than just a group of helpers, said: "Getting involved with volunteering brings instant satisfaction. It's good for older people to see youngsters be part of something good and giving something back to their community, rather than be reminded of the public perception of teenagers causing trouble on street corners. "We would like the Dacorum community to be proud of the work we do as we represent the youths of today." If you would like Hemel Rotaract Club to help, or you would like to join them, please call Sheila ... Please close this window to return to Hemel Hempstead Rotaract website |
