Hemel Hempstead Rotaract Club Quiz

THERE was Christmas cheer and a walk down memory lane, courtesy of HHRC, for the senior citizens at the Boxmoor Blind Club's quarterly quiz night on Monday November 22nd.

The mood for the evening was set when the members walked into the club with forties swing tunes from the Glenn Miller Band and the Andrew Sisters playing sweetly in the background. Members thoroughly enjoyed being questioned on entertainment from the 1940's, Christmas and general knowledge and they particularly loved guessing the tunes from the war years through to the Hollywood greats. The sheer excitment from some members recognising the song and then singing it fully thus sharing the answer with the rest of the club was a moment of hilarity.

Everyone was in good spirits after their tea-break and so the battle to the top continued. The questions were fired out harder and faster, the group heckled loudly, but quietly conferred with the group members.

As the quiz drew to an end, the final question was asked and a murmur of anticipation spread whilst the points were counted. Then silence fell, the quiz master stood up and announced the winning team - The Clod Hoppers!

Ivy, Joyce, Miriam and Alan were the triumphant team for the evening. However, the winning feeling was felt by all that night. It was felt by the club members who had a fun-filled social evening and walked away with Christmas goodies and the Rotaracters who were happy that they'd had an opportunity to place smiles on faces of such a wonderful group of people.

Hemel Hempstead Rotaract Club is a younger sub-group of the Rotary Club, and is always looking for 18-30 year olds to join the club. Can you help us to organise fun, interactive events that raise money for charities, such as participating in quiz nights, sponsored walks, darts marathons, "It's a knockout" and many more fundraising events? If you are a charity and you would like our help, please get in touch too!

We are a social group as well as a voluntary organisation and we meet on the first and third Wednesday of every month at 7pm at the Civic Centre, Hemel Hempstead. So if you're interested in making a positive change in your life as well as to the people around you, join us.
