Talkstar Interactive ~ Chinese Horoscopes

Chinese astrology is an ancient art. 4,000 years ago Chinese astronomers observed the stars and calculated a calendar that told the people when the seasons began. Gradually, this became the basis for working out an individual's fortune. Chinese time is calculated in a 60 year cycle, and follows the cycles of the moon.
Animal Signs
The twelve animals are the most well known aspect of Chinese astrology. Legend has it that the Jade Emperor chose the 12 animals, which each have their own influence over the characteristics of people born in that year. At the start of every Chinese New Year one of the 12 animals takes its turn to rule.
Yin/Yang
There are many other aspects to Chinese Astrology, Yin and Yang are eternal opposites, Yin (black) represents winter, night and transition, and Yang (white) represents day, summer, birth and light. These two interact with each other usually influencing the Yin person towards solitude and independence and the Yang person towards company and action.
The Elements
There are 5 elements which create change and influence each animal sign in different ways. They are wood, fire, earth, metal and water.
Colours
Each animal sign is associated with a colour, which represents a different character attribute.
Direction
Each of the animal signs is matched to a direction on a compass, which is associated with the hours in the day and the seasons of the year.
